This grand antebellum home, located between Wadley and Sandersville, is surrounded by ancient cedar trees, many of which are showing their age and the scars of wind and weather. I believe there were originally 13 trees, for the 13 colonies. Sherman’s forces passed by the house en route to Savannah. It was owned by Judge A. E. Tarver, who had a large grist mill and farming operation here. Below is an illustration from the 7 January 1865 Harpers Weekly.
